The latest image of a black hole(2019) formed by a NASA Scientist
A black hole is a space in the spacetime where force due to gravity is so much high that everything is pulled inside it. The reason why gravity is so high in a black hole is because matter is squeezed into a very little space.
A black hole has very large amount of mass. They can be very small( small as the size of an atom) or as big as cluster of galaxies. Even the black hole with the size of atom can have mass of whole earth. The black holes can even form when a star is dying, as all the mass of the star is concentrated into a very small place.
How are Black Holes formed?
It is assumed that the formation of black holes begun with the formation of the universe. A black hole is formed when the center of a massive star collides in itself. This can also cause a supernova in the universe. The outer part blasts off and inner part collapses within it's center.
When the core of the star compacts in the point where it has mathematically zero volume, it is said to possess infinite gravity. This creation of infinite gravity region is known as singularity. When the singularity is achieved, the gravitational pull will become so much that it will pull its surrounding greater than the speed of light. Since it is believed that no object can travel faster than the speed of light, so no radiation or matter can escape from the black hole. This is called Event horizon.
Can our Earth Fall into a Black Hole?
Currently, Earth cannot fall into black hole, because no black hole is so near to the earth, and our sun a is very small star to become a black hole. And Even if some black hole having same gravity as that of a sun came near to the solar system, the earth and other planets will just revolve around the black hole, just as they revolve around the sun.
